Treat every suspected snake bite as a veterinary emergency

For a suspected snake bite, keep the pet calm, minimise movement, call the nearest emergency veterinarian immediately and transport as directed; do not wait for signs to worsen or chase or touch the snake. A photo from a safe distance may help, but must never delay care. Snake bite in Australian dogs and cats can rapidly become life-threatening, signs vary with species, venom dose and bite site, and an apparent brief recovery does not exclude envenomation.
