Paralysis ticks require special attention in parts of eastern Australia
If living in or visiting an east-coast risk area, ask a local veterinarian to select prevention for the pet's species, weight and health and to demonstrate a systematic tick search. Immediately contact a veterinarian after finding a tick or for voice change, hind-limb weakness, vomiting, retching, swallowing difficulty or breathing difficulty; a preventive product does not replace body checks. Paralysis ticks occur mainly along Australia's east coast and their toxin can cause progressive paralysis and respiratory failure in dogs and cats; risk areas and peaks vary within states and cases can still occur outside peak periods.
